LEARN THE RULES

How to play Tilewilds

Every creature needs a safe home. Place animals on matching habitats while keeping predators away from prey. Here's everything you need to know.

01
THE BASICS

Place every animal

Each level gives you a 4×4 grid of terrain tiles and a set of animals to place. Your goal is to find a spot for every animal while following all the rules.

1Pick an animalSelect from the side panel.
2Find its habitatValid cells highlight when you select.
3Keep everyone safeFollow the predator and territory rules.

Tip: You can tap a placed animal to pick it back up and move it elsewhere.

02
HABITATS

Every animal has a home

Animals can only live on specific terrain types. Place them where they belong.

PREDATOR & PREY

Keep them apart

Certain animals are natural enemies. A predator cannot be placed next to its prey — they must have at least one cell of space between them.

Note: Only predator pairs that both appear in a level are active. The Rules tab in each level shows which threats apply.

05
TERRITORIAL

Give them space

Some animals are territorial — they refuse to live next to another of their own kind. If a level has multiple Owls, Bears, or Eagles, you must spread them out.

Owl
Bear
Eagle

Two Bears side by side? Not allowed. Two Bears with a gap between them? Perfect.

06
ADJACENCY

Who counts as a neighbor?

Orthogonal Levels 1–25

Only the 4 cells directly above, below, left, and right count as neighbors.

Diagonal Levels 26+

All 8 surrounding cells count — including diagonals. Much harder!

07
TERRAIN CONFLICT

Swamp vs. Forest

Starting at level 35, swamp terrain appears. Animals on swamp cells and animals on forest cells cannot be neighbors, regardless of species. This creates an invisible wall between the two biomes.

08
SPECIAL MECHANICS

Rocks & fixed animals

◆

Rock obstacles

Starting at level 15, some cells are blocked by rocks. No animal can live on a rock tile — plan your placement around them.

📌

Pre-placed animals

From level 25 onward, some animals start already placed on the board. These are fixed — you can't move them. Build your solution around their positions.
